Infrastructure Government - Politics States - Karnataka EC to Karnataka Govt: Cancel decision on NICE Our Bureau Mangalore, May 8 The Election Commission of India has directed the Karnataka Government to cancel the decision of the April 25 meeting of the Executive Committee (which acts as the Cabinet during President’s rule), to allow Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) Ltd as the implementing agency of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project. The Government has been asked not to take any decision on this till May 28. Mr N. Gopalaswami, Chief Election Commissioner, who reviewed the poll preparation in five districts of Karnataka in Mangalore on Thursday, told presspersons that this is a major policy decision. “The Election Commission considered it a violation of model code of conduct, and asked the Government to cancel the decision,” he said. The April 25 meeting of the Executive Committee had overturned the August 30, 2007 decision of the Karnataka Government to cut NICE out of the BMIC project and invite fresh bids in a global tender to implement the project. The order of the Executive Committee stated that it is ‘partially modifying’ four earlier Cabinet decisions that imposed severe restrictions on the right of NICE to alienate any portion of the project land.
