Hyderabad, May 9

Giving a big push to bio-fuel sector, the city-based Nandan Biomatrix has joined hands with IL&FS, Shapoorji Pallonji and Alphakat GmbH of Germany to set up bio investment eco industrial zone (BIEZ) in various States.

Each of these BIEZs would bring together various players involved in clean energy sector, including biofuels and renewable energy, processing and research and development units.

Estimated to come in about 300 km, a BIEZ would have demonstration plots and would only focus on jatropha and bio-mass based bio-diesel production facilities.

Addressing a press conference here Mr B. Jaya Kumar, Director of Nandan, said the first such BIEZ would come up in this financial year itself.

Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are among the States that might get the first BIEZ.

The joint venture partners would include BPCL and Shapoorji Pallonji for setting up the complete value chain for establishment of refineries and procure the entire bio-fuel produced in these zones.

The other partners in this initiative were Alphakeat GmbH of Germany that developed an efficient technology for producing bio-diesel from seeds and green biomass of jatropha.
