Hyderabad, May 9 The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has decided to implement a plan of action to control the rising prices of the essential commodities by implementing the recommendation of a Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted for the purpose recently.

“We will be taking certain short-term, medium term and long-term measures to control the prices of essential commodities immediately,” Mr Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Minister for Information & Public Relations, has said.

The recommendations of GoM include, among others, regular meetings of the district collectors with the traders, stringent action against those who resorted to hoarding of stocks and black marketing, strengthening of Rythu Bazars and expansion of vegetable cultivation.

The State Government would also request the Centre to immediately release 19,000 tonnes of palm oil due to the State, the Minister said while briefing newspersons on the Cabinet decisions.

Funds diversion

Another decision was to initiate action on those found guilty in the Rs 14.84 crore District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) and Sarva Siksha Abhayan (SSA) scam as per the findings of Justice A Venkatrami Reddy Commission.

The Cabinet approved the report of Justice Reddy and instructed the departments concerned to take steps to recover the money and initiate action as per the law, the Minister said.

The one-man commission had found that over Rs 14.84 crore was diverted from DPEP and SSA funds and was misappropriated.

Teaching recruitments

The Cabinet also approved recruitment of 20 professors and assistant professors on regular basis out of 102 through outsourcing in the ENT Department of King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam with an annual expenditure of Rs 4.1 crore, and 14 professors and assistant professors in Sri Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati (Rs 66.90 lakh).
