First phase of Karnataka poll today

Our Bureau

Bangalore, May 9

Bengaluru will be in the vortex of the first phase of the Karnataka polls for 89 seats slated for tomorrow. Brand Bengaluru, whose meteoric rise as an internationally admired city for its pluralistic society, suffered a setback in the last few years, particularly after the State was pushed into political wilderness since November last year when the BJP-led coalition was ousted from power in less than a fortnight of being sworn in.

With competition from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh staring in the face of Bengaluru, the city is striving hard to retain its reputation for which several citizens group campaigned hard to draw the attention of the voters to elect the right government that could restore the momentum the city gave for the economic growth of the State. Even the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, had drawn voters’ attention to the importance of electing a stable government, which would ensure “a new beginning” for the IT capital.
