Spot rubber stays firm

Aravindan

Kottayam, May 10 The domestic rubber prices were firm on Saturday. Covering groups kept the market mood bullish as major international indices concluded on a positive note on Friday.

The market made all-round gains except ISNR 20 which closed unchanged on extremely low demand. Sheet rubber RSS 4 improved to Rs 117 a kg from Rs 116.50 a kg amidst low volumes. Conflicting views are aired by different groups regarding the sudden suspension of futures trading in rubber.

While a leading group in the sector favours the decision some others strongly feel that the ultimate loser is the grower who is compelled to sell his produce in a less transparent market.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 117 (116.50); RSS-5: 115 (114.50); ungraded: 113 (112); ISNR 20: 113 (113) and latex 60 per cent: 81.50 (81).
