S-E Rly freight earnings up 39% in April

The South Eastern Railway (SER) handled 9.9 million tonnes of originating freight traffic in April, registering 17.5 per cent growth over the same period of last year, according to SER sources.

However, the freight earning during the period at Rs 553 crore, showed a growth of 39 per cent.

Iron ore was the major component of the traffic, the throughput being 6.4 mt, followed by coal (1.5 mt), pig iron & steel (0.82 mt), cement (0.54 mt), raw materials (except iron ore) to steel plants (0.21mt) and general mechandise goods (0.28 mt), the sources added.
