Our Correspondent Madurai, May 12 The Oriental Bank of Commerce has plans to establish two more training institutes through its Rural Development Trust, one each at Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, according to Mr Ravindra Yadav, Chief Executive of the Trust. Speaking to Business Line at Singampunari in Sivaganga District on Sunday on the sidelines of the opening of a branch of the bank by the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, Mr Yadav said the bank floated the special purpose vehicle in 2006 with the objective of providing training and building up capacities of the rural masses, both in farm and non-farm activities. Four institutes were set up, one at Punjab, one at Uttarakhand and two at Rajasthan. During 2007-08, 4,500 persons were trained and of them, 3,230 were provided with the credit linkage under micro financing schemes to pursue activities that included a hi-tech dairy. Wherever the linkage is provided, the Trust guides them for two years, he said. The Trust ties up with non-government organisations for providing training to self-help groups. In Madurai, the bank has involved leading NGO DHAN and established contact with 127 self-help groups. The branch at Singampunari has established contact with 45 self-help groups already, he added.
