Steel hurdles

This with reference to the article “Land acquisition, eco hurdles hit new steel projects” (Business Line, May 12).

It is true that almost all big investments in the country are being hit by opposition and long-awaited approvals.

Steel is the backbone of infrastructure and, fortunately, many companies are targeting India for investments. However, the projects are facing a set-back due to slow legal procedures.

Already, the companies are witnessing resistance and adding to the pain is the Government’s legal battles, which does not seem to end.

We just cannot blame the illiterate and ignorant people for opposing the projects when the government is not taking the matter seriously. Industrialisation is the key to development and this success can be achieved only if the people and the government act in a responsible manner.

It is time the Government expedites its procedures and provides the due approvals to the companies that are being unnecessarily delayed for years now.
