Airlines Star Aviation & others get nod to import aircraft Ashwini Phadnis New Delhi, May 13 The proposals of a host of airlines, including the Chennai-based Star Aviation Private Ltd, Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways, SpiceJet, Jagson Airlines and MDLR Airlines, to import aircraft and helicopters have been approved by the Government. Official sources told Business Line that while Kingfisher has been given permission to import three A-330-200 and two Airbus 340-500 aircraft for international operations, Jet Airways has been permitted to import an Airbus A-330-200 aircraft. Kingfisher Airlines has been allowed to import the aircraft for international operations, although the airline is still ineligible to start flying abroad as yet. The airline currently does not meet the Government stipulation of having completed five years of domestic operations to begin international operations. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also approved a proposal of low cost airline SpiceJet to import two Boeing 737-900 aircraft. Besides, Star Aviation has been given in-principle approval for importing 10 new Embraer 170 Long range aircraft, while Zav Airways, which has been allowed to start a regional airline in the north eastern part of the country, has been given permission to import two ATR 72-500 aircraft and one ATR 42-500 aircraft. The Delhi-based MDLR airlines, which has also been given a regional airline status, has been permitted to import two Bell 407 helicopters and one Bell 412 helicopter. More Stories on : Airlines
