ONGC-promoted co inks pact

New Delhi, May 14

ONGC Petro-additions Ltd (OPaL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gujarat-based Torrent Energy Ltd, for supply of bulk power by Torrent to OPaL. According to a statement issued by ONGC, the MoU was inked in Gandhinagar on Wednesday. OPaL has been promoted by ONGC to set up a petrochemicals complex at Dahej in Gujarat. As per the MoU, Torrent will provide OPaL with sustained power supply, in synchronisation with OPaL’s planned commissioning of its petrochemicals complex. Torrent will be supplying 350-400 MW power to OPaL in the first phase.The Gujarat Government has designated Torrent Power as co-developer for generation and distribution of power in Dahej Special Economic Zone. Torrent Power has incorporated Torrent Energy to implement a 1500 MW LNG/gas-based power plant. Torrent Energy will set up a gas-based power plant at DSEZ in first phase of the project to be commissioned by 2011-12. —
