Roadways States - Other States US firm may build Sikkim expressway Sarikah Atreya Gangtok, May 14 An American company has shown interest in financing and building a modern expressway in Sikkim. Star Universal Resource Company Inc, an American company based in New York, has come up with a project proposal to construct the Sevoke-Gangtok–Nathula expressway, meeting one of the long-pending demands of the State. According to a release issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations, this was revealed at a meeting of representatives of the company with the Chief Minister, Mr Pawan Chamling, at the Chintan Bhawan here. SpecialityThe company, which specialises in the construction of express highways, tunnels, airports the world over, made a presentation on the project during the meeting. The company, which is ready to finance the entire project, said the total cost of the express highway would come to about Rs 1,550 crore. The two-lane road would have about 10 tunnels and 10 bridges. About 30 km of the highway will be in West Bengal, for which the company has already received the approval from the West Bengal Government. On completion of this express highway, the distance from Gangtok to Siliguri will be covered in about 40 minutes, the company has claimed. About 12 months will be required for the survey and 36 months for putting up the bridges and tunnels from Sevoke in West Bengal to Gangtok. More Stories on : Roadways | Other States
