Airlines Domestic air traffic up 8.6% in April Our Bureau New Delhi, May 15 The domestic airline industry recorded a growth of 8.6 per cent during April compared with the previous year. The latest data released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation shows that 38.92 lakh passengers flew by the scheduled domestic airlines during April up from 35.82 lakh passengers the previous year. In April, Jet Airways continued to be the market leader carrying 8.39 lakh passengers, while its 100 per cent subsidiary, JetLite carried 3.11 lakh passengers. Kingfisher Airlines along with Deccan carried 1.08 million passengers with Kingfisher Airlines alone carrying 5.58 lakh passengers marginally higher than the 5.30-lakh passengers carried by Air Deccan. Air India (domestic) carried 5.86 lakh passengers down from 7.81 lakh carried during the previous year. The number of passengers carried in April compared with the previous year by each of the private sector airlines in April compared with the previous year was not immediately available. Among the low cost airlines, IndiGo carried 4.46 lakh passengers, while SpiceJet flew 3.94 lakh and 1.80 lakh passengers travelled with GoAir during April.
