Packaging institute to open 2 more centres

Hyderabad, May 16 The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is looking at opening two more centres in Ahmedabad and Guwahati during the present 11th Five-Year Plan.

“Looking at the growth in the packaging industry it was felt that there was a need for more institutes for training and testing of packaging,” Mr N.C. Saha, Professor and Head Laboratories Division, Indian Institute of Packaging, told Business Line on the sidelines of a seminar on ‘Packaging Certification of Dangerous Goods for Exports here on Friday.

IIP has five centres – in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Though, the final plan and investments for the projects have not yet been finalised, Mr Saha said that they have received the go ahead from the Union Commerce Ministry.

“According to the initial plan, the Guwahati centre will be used for training and testing, while the one at Ahmedabad will be for special activities like printing and packaging testing laboratories,” he said.
