Our Bureau

Hyderabad, May 16 The Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers (IETE) is in the process of expanding its education services and recently secured nod from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University for a post-graduate course leading to Masters in Technology.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the Chairman of Hyderabad Chapter of IETE, Mr R. Vekataraman, said this education initiative is part of the efforts of sharing the learning and exchanging experiences with students.

Apart from post-graduate level courses offered through Advanced Leaning Centre in Computer Science, which is equivalent to M.Tech, IETE offers ITI students and diploma holders secure B-Tech degrees through its courses.

Mr TH Hanuman Chowdary, founding member of IETE, said that May 17 is being observed as World Telecom and Information Society Day with a one day seminar on “Connecting People with Disabilities — ICT Opportunities for all.” This event is being co-hosted with IETE, Computer Society of India, Hyderabad Software Exporters Association among other industry bodies. Each year the outcome of deliberations are sent to various decisions makers in the Government with a few suggestions and also to the International Telecom Union.

Some of the issues confronting the telecom sector such as standardisation of systems and technology, congestion in networks due to low spectrum allocation, delay in expanding rural telephony reach and proliferating broadband would be discussed at the conference, Mr Chowdary said.
