Hyderabad, May 16 The Andhra Pradesh Government is firming up plans to develop a ‘Health City’ in Hyderabad soon.

The facility, which will come up in a 200-acre plot at Patancheru on the outskirts of the city, will have a multi-specialty hospital, pharmacies and all other things needed to make it a complete healthcare destination.

The Government is preparing a plan in this regard, according to Dr K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Vice-Chairman, Hyderabad Urban Development Authority.

Though he didn’t elaborate further, the cost of the Health City project is likely to be around Rs 8,000 crore. Interestingly, the Apollo group of hospitals rechristened its Hyderabad facility as ‘Apollo Health City’ with a host of healthcare services, including paramedic training institutes and research facilities.

Addressing a seminar on ‘Real Estate Sector — Opportunities and Challenges in Andhra Pradesh’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here on Friday, he said the city has assumed international standards and temporary hiccups such as the present slowdown will not have any impact any longer. “Even about the present uncertainty, we will have clarity soon,” he said.

Panel discussion

A panel comprising Mr Pochendar Shenigarapu (Chief Executive Officer of Lanco Hills Technology Park), Mr Goutham Reddy (Director of Ramky group), Mr K. Thiagarajan (CEO of Maytas Properties), and Mr Y. Kiron (Managing Director of Suchirindia) discussed the current issues that dogged the real-estate sector.

Speaking on the reported correction in the real-estate sector, Mr Pochendar said it could be a result of macro- economic conditions globally and socio-economic factors.

But in the long-term, it was a long way to go, he said, hinting at huge growth opportunities in the sector.

For one, he said that the farming sector, which received a huge impetus in recent times, could drive real-estate growth in smaller cities like Warangal, Karimnagar and Nellore.

Infrastructure first

Mr Kiron highlighted the need for development of enabling infrastructure to support the real-estate growth. “We are first constructing the buildings, and then going for the infrastructure. This should change,” he said.
