Passport applications piling up
Madurai, May 16
Applications for issue of passports are continuing to
pile up at the newly opened passport office here,
intended to serve the southern districts in the State. The
All India Passport Employees' Association held a sit-in
protest for a while, demanding to relieve all the 40
employees transferred to Madurai following the
bifurcation of the Tiruchi Passport office. The office has
been citing the delay in the issue of passports to teething
problems and `time taken for police enquiry' as reasons.
Applications filed in January are yet to be issued the
passports, it is learnt. - Our Correspondent
