Society & Development Industry & Economy - Employment ‘Employ differently-abled people, Govt will pick up the EPF, ESI tab’
Mr P. Chidambaram Our Bureau New Delhi, May 17 The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, has urged industry to employ at least 1,00,000 differently-abled people before the end of the year and promised that the Government will pick up the tab of the employee provident fund (EPF) and Employee State Insurance (ESI) contributions of the employer for the first few years. “One lakh is not a very large number if all industries come together,” he said after giving away FICCI-SEDF corporate social responsibility awards here on Saturday. Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Tea and ONGC were among those who received certificates and trophies for their CSR initiatives. 10-point social charterThe Finance Minister exhorted corporates to embrace the Prime Minister’s 10-point social charter for companies. In particular, he drew the attention of captains of industry to the 6th point that calls for desisting from non-competitive and cartel type behaviour. “This (6th point) had contemporary relevance,” he said, in a tacit reference to the cement and steel industries, which have shown cartel like behaviour in the recent past. Mr Chidambaram said that growth can be sustained by good governance and good politics. He, however, highlighted that inclusive growth can only be sustained through social conscience, which will lead to social responsibility. More Stories on : Society & Development | Employment
