Petroleum States - Maharashtra MIDC arm seeks tie-ups for gas supply to industrial estates Rahul Wadke Mumbai, May 18 Maharashtra Industrial Gas Transmission Company Ltd is set to tie up with major gas suppliers to facilitate its operations as a gas carrier in industrial estates of the State. Promoted by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, the company has the right of way in almost all the industrial estates run by the corporation with major prospective consumers. Sources in Maharashtra Government said MIDC will soon seek State Cabinet approval for the step-down company, which will procure gas from the upcoming pan-India pipeline network of GAIL India Ltd and Reliance Industries Ltd. The companies on MIDC’s radar include GAIL, Reliance Industries and the Gujarat State Petronet Corporation. As the transmission company necessarily requires a joint-venture partner for sourcing natural gas, MIDC will be content with a small stake in the partnership. A recent survey has indicated that the demand for natural gas in 31 State-run estates was 9.07 mmscmd, sources said. Gujarat is the only State with an extensive gas grid. Andhra Pradesh is said to be planning for a grid. PipelineReliance Industries is in the process of laying a pipeline from the Krishna-Godavari gas fields in Andhra Pradesh to Gujarat. The pipeline will enter Maharashtra at Sholapur and run up to Dhule, from where it would be linked to the Gujarat grid. GAIL has given in-principle approval for a Rs 2,500-crore gas pipeline from Dabhol to Bangalore. Originating from Ratnagiri Gas and Power’s LNG terminal at Dabhol, the proposed pipeline will pass through Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, which has a number of industrial estates.
