BSNL plans more towers in Karnataka

Bangalore, May 18 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd plans to strengthen its infrastructure in Karnataka as it needs to meet the demands of the increasing subscriber base by 1.3 million in four to six months. BSNL, which currently has a subscriber base of 1.7 million and which plans to meet a target of 2.5 million connections for 2008-09, will be installing 1,300 towers to improve its network coverage. It already had 1,732 towers in 725 towns.

The additional towers will enable BSNL to provide connectivity to its new subscribers, particularly in rural areas, said Mr T.S. Kuppuswamy, Chief General Manager, BSNL.
