‘Kerala is perfect place for entrepreneur development’

Our Bureau

Kochi, May 19 Dr A.S. Rao, Advisor, Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), has said that Kerala is the perfect place for all entrepreneur development activities as there are a number of technically qualified young people who have the scope to start their own business.

It is important to support and nurture these young talents, which Technopark is doing in association with the support of DST, TIFAC and DSIR, he said after inaugurating the one-day workshop on ‘Promoting Business & Technology Incubation and Building Enterprises’ organised by Technopark here.

Mr H.K. Mittal, Advisor, DST, while delivering the keynote address congratulated Technopark TIB for receiving the Best Technology Incubator Award for 2007. He also said that the capacity of entrepreneurship could be further modified by forming a team and acquiring additional skills.

Elaborating on incubation initiatives by Technopark, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Radhakrishnan Nair, said that it started the Technology Incubation programme in 2006 with the support of DST. As on March 31, 2008, 70 companies had been incubated in Technopark — of which 35 companies have graduated yielding a phenomenal success of 95 per cent, which is the highest anywhere in the world.

The event is aimed at emphasising the need to support genuine entrepreneurs and innovators from rural Kerala to transform their ideas into marketable products and to incubate them in the Technology Business Incubator and thereby drive the economic growth of the country to newer heights.

The major objective is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in campuses of academic institutions and rural Kerala.
