Mergers & Acquisitions Champagne Indage buys UK’s Darlington Wines Our Bureau Mumbai, May 19 Champagne Indage Ltd has acquired the consolidated assets of the United Kingdom’s Darlington Wines, an independent supplier of wine, for an undisclosed amount. Darlington Wines has a bottling plant under Corby Bottlers and a warehousing facility at Birbeck House — both which now come into the Champagne Indage fold, a CIL spokesperson told Business Line. Details were not available on the employee-strength of the company. A supplier of wines from across the world into the 120 million cases British wine market, Darlington Wines had estimated revenues of £25 million in 2007. Australia, UK marketsFor Champagne Indage, which recently acquired its third winery in Australia, the UK acquisition will give flexibility to sell its wines from Australia in the UK market, the spokesperson said. Mr Ranjit S. Chougule, Managing Director of Champagne Indage Ltd, said in a statement that the consolidated assets would give the company price efficiency in a competitive market such as the UK, besides relationships with large institutional buyers. Recent acquisitionsChampagne Indage is the wine-selling company of the Indage group and its three recent acquisitions are Thachi wines in 2007 and Loxton winery and VinCrest in 2008, all based out of South Australia.
