Foreign Trade States - Other States Third season’s trading begins in Nathula
A file picture of Indian vehicles entering China through Nathu La pass. Sarikah Atreya Nathula, May 19 The third season’s trading across Nathula began from Monday. The State and Industries Minister, Mr R.B. Subba, was present at the border trading post for the opening. Also present were representatives from the Army, the ITBP, the Sikkim East District administration and officials from the State Commerce and Industries Departments. Mr Subba welcomed the Chinese traders and said he was happy that the Nathula trade had reached its third year. Altogether 16 vehicles and 81 traders from the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) of China crossed the Nathula border and came to the Sherathang trade mart, along with officials from TAR. However, no local traders from Sikkim were present at Nathula or Sherathang for the reopening. The lack of interest on the part of local traders is perhaps due to the low trade volume last year. On the other hand, the Chinese traders were excited and hopeful about the third year of trading. Talking to Business Line, one of the traders from TAR, Ms Tshering Choden, said she was looking forward to this year’s trading. She said she was hopeful that the trade would pick up from Tuesday and that more local traders would participate, as in previous years. More Stories on : Foreign Trade | Other States
