Our Bureau

Bangalore, May 20 East Midlands Development Agency and Advantage West Midlands, the two regional development agencies of the British Midlands region, have set a priority for the Indian market, especially those who are keen on research and development sector, in the automotive sector.

Boasting of world-class universities, the region offers advanced programmes in transport research in the UK, ranging from rocket fuel to road surfaces, and railway signalling to road accidents. Academic researchers work in partnership with the industry to improve manufacturing competitiveness, deliver new technologies and provide innovative solutions.

UK universities with strong links with key organisations in the automotive sector develop technologies to aid product innovation, technology transfer and commercialisation. This will offer opportunity to Indian companies to expand their business and gain from the wealth of expertise available in the region.

For Indian companies, who set up their facilities in the British Midlands, support and funding is available to establish these research and development programmes and facilities.

Ms Chandrika Shah, Country Representative, British Midlands said, “This is indeed a tremendous opportunity for Indian companies who are looking to expand their businesses globally.

“India would benefit from such world-class research in energy efficient technology. With everything from independent design and engineering teams to major R&D specialists, companies based in the British Midlands are taking cutting-edge innovation from the drawing board out onto the road.”

The region also has opportunities in growth markets such as safety, electronics, environmental legislation compliance, hybrid vehicles, low-carbon technologies and fuel cells, aluminium bodies, telematics and satellite navigation applications, and low-volume premium vehicles, she said.

The British Midlands has a cluster of universities and industrial organisations with expertise in hydrogen-related technologies including hydrogen production, storage, distribution and use in engines and fuel cells.
