Plea on property tax revision

Madurai, May 21

The Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sought the intervention of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Madurai Corporation over property tax revision in the city. In a statement, the chamber President, Mr S. Rethinavelu, has said the announcement by the Corporation Commissioner to stick to the original plan for upward revision of property tax- 25 per cent for residential buildings, 150 per cent for commercial buildings and 100 per cent for industrial buildings and tha t, the filled up applications for self-assessment should be submitted before the end of the current month, is shocking. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor should intervene in the matter immediately and consult the chamber and other organisations before effecting any revision and not insist on submission of self-assessment form for buildings, he urged.
