S. Africa to issue 1-year multiple-entry visas from June

Kolkata, May 21 South Africa will issue a one-year multiple entry business visas from any place in India from June, Mr Jardine Omar, Economic Counsellor, High Commission of South Africa in India, said here on Wednesday.

Speaking at a programme arranged by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce Mr Omar said, “We want to introduce multiple-entry visa from early next month to South Africa to facilitate more frequent business travel between the two counties.”

However, the arrangement has to be referred by the Consul General of South Africa in India Mr A. K. Rungta and it is not going to be a blanket issue of visas, he added.

More flights

South Africa is also keen on augmenting flights between the two countries and would like to increase the frequency of the Durban-Chennai and Delhi-Johannesberg flights. Mr Omar said there were still problems with air services given the low-passenger volumes. The introduction of multiple-entry visas could help overcome the problem, he felt.

The business interaction between South Africa and India occurs mostly through the north and western parts of India; it is the least through the eastern region, he added. “A lot needs to be done to augment business relations with India, specially the eastern region,” he said.
