Air passenger growth rate

The news item “Air passenger growth slows down” (Business Line, May 22) reports that the air passenger growth rate has slowed down to around 11 per cent in the first quarter. against 25 per cent last Q1.

The slowdown can also be attributed to the congestions faced by the airlines in the major airports such as Mumbai, where planes often have to wait for their turn for take-off as well as landing. Airport infrastructure, therefore, has to be expanded to accommodate more planes as well as more passengers.
