SriLankan undertakes own ground handling at 4 airports

Thiruvananthapuram, May 22 SriLankan Airlines now undertakes its own ground handling operations at four airports in India.

The airline handles cargo and baggage, security, cabin cleaning, and aircraft pushback operations among others for its flights out of Chennai, Coimbatore, Goa and Tiruchi airports.

Of the 100 flights the airline operates to India each week, 33 fly to the four cities. “Our service levels and punctuality have greatly improved at these four stations,” said Mr Ajith Fernando, Manager (Airport Service Support), SriLankan Airlines.

Mr Manoj Gunawardena, CEO, SriLankan Airlines, says benefits from this initiative are two fold. “It increases our level of customer service and also brings in significant cost savings to the operation.”
