Mixed trend at Kochi tea auction

Kochi, May 22 There was fair amount of activity at the dust tea auction as inter-State buyers and exporters were visibly active in bolder CTC varieties. Blenders and loose tea trade remained selective in dust category. While exporters were less active in leaf tea this week, inter-State buyers remained busy.

There was 11,66,000 kg of dust tea on offer which elicited good general demand. Good liquoring CTCs remained steady, bolder CTC generally firm to dearer by Rs 2-3 while other CTC eased by Rs 1-2. Best CTC varieties commanded Rs 60-68, medium CTC was at Rs 53-57 and below medium quoted Rs 48-52. High grown BOPD fetched Rs 95, medium BOPD was at Rs 50-52 and secondaries were at Rs 42-45.

Leaf Sale

The arrivals to the leaf tea auction increased to 3,50,000 kg. Prices of high grown orthodox tended to ease while fannings remained steady. Medium whole leaf grades and primaries also tended to ease by Rs 3-5. Plain orthodox broken were steady. Best Nilgiri varieties quoted Rs 75-90, medium orthodox was at Rs 66-85 and plain orthodox was at Rs 50-60. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 62-70 while medium CTC leaf was at Rs 53-60.

Top Prices

In the dust category, Kodanad CLBOPD fetched the top price at Rs 95 followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 80, Pasuparai FD at Rs 75, Mayura PD at Rs 71 and Waterfall PD at Rs 71. In the leaf segment, Chamraj FOP fetched Rs 127 followed by Chamran OP at Rs 121, Havukal FOP at Rs 120 and Parkside FOP at Rs 120.
