The Ministry of Environment and Forests has invited suggestions on the Coastal Management Zone draft finalised in accordance with the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. The draft was issued on May 9 and within a period of 60 days from the date of issue of notification, suggestions and objections would be accepted. The objective is protection and sustainable development of the coastal stretches and marine environment through sustainable coastal zone management practices. T his would be based on sound scientific principles taking into account the vulnerabilities of the coast to natural hazards, sustainable livelihood security for local communities, and conservation of ecologically and culturally significant coastal resources.
