Employment Location, easy commuting top criteria for jobs: Survey Our Bureau Bangalore, May 22 Location and convenience of commuting are primary criteria for accepting and keeping jobs among the younger generation. This followed by ‘stress and life-work imbalance’, which motivates young people to look for a job change. According to a study by staffing solutions company TeamLease on ‘Why youth pick and chuck jobs,’ many respondents felt that growth opportunities and job profile that matches future career plans also formed an integral factor to promote longevity at an organisation. The study is part of the series on ‘India’s New World of Work,’ where people below the age of 25 were interviewed across eight major cities for a sample size of 443 and HR Heads across the cities (Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai) for an indicative sample size of 52. Ms Surabhi Mathur, General Manager, Permanent Staffing, TeamLease Services, says, “The survey captures some of the implications of the ‘youthification’ of India’s workforce and their changing view of employment. Today’s youth has higher aspirations, is impatient, has more choices and does not view employment as a relationship but as a transaction.” Terming this as a ‘taxi-cab relationship’ she says this has important consequences for corporate India’s strategy and tactics for recruiting, retention and talent development. HighlightsThe study highlighted the following — 80 per cent gave ‘corporate/brand image’ high priority while choosing a job, and most HR professionals agreed too. Almost 90 per cent stressed on the money-mantra while accepting a job, though Ahmedabad seemed to deviate a bit with just 70 per cent acceptances. Youth and HR executives agreed that future career opportunities were a clear criterion for selection; however, 18 per cent of the Bangalore-based HR executives disagreed.
