The UPA Government has more than doubles its financial support for rural development to the State Governments during the last four years 2004-08, the Minister for Rural development, Dr Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, said here.

A total of Rs 1,17,540.61 crore was released to the States during 2004-05, up 145.33 per cent compared with Rs 47,909.62 crore in 2000-04, he told reporters here.

The Minister pointed out that it was the NDA-ruled States which have received the largest support from the UPA Government during the past four years.

These are Uttar Pradesh Rs 13,923.97 crore against Rs 5,935.56 crore), Madhya Pradesh (Rs 12,247.95 crore against Rs 3,683.83 crore), Rajasthan (Rs 10,562.51 crore against Rs 3,110.62 crore) and Bihar (Rs 10,826 crore against Rs 2,942.39 crore).
