Guidelines for modernising non-metro airports soon

Our Bureau

New Delhi, May 23 The Ministry of Civil Aviation will soon finalise the guidelines for modernisation of non-metro airports around the country, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture has been informed.

At a meeting here on Thursday, the committee is said to have been critical of the delay in modernisation of not only 35 non-metro airports, but also the airports at Chennai and Kolkata.

The development work at Chennai and Kolkata airports is to be done by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The committee was also said to have been critical of the manner in which the Planning Commission had gone against the decisions taken by the Committee of Infrastructure headed by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, for modernisation of 35 non-metro airports.
