New Products & Services States - Andhra Pradesh TVS Motors launches autorickshaws in AP Our Bureau Hyderabad, May 23 Imagine an auto rickshaw with an FM radio, a digital clock, a water bottle holder, a magazine holder and with adequate leg space for both the passenger and driver. This new version of the three-wheeler auto rickshaw is set to hit the city roads, with the Chennai-based TVS Motors announcing its launch here on Friday. The company has also offered a slew of welfare measures to the auto drivers and their families. The 200 cc, two stroke, electric start auto rickshaw, which was launched in Chennai on March 9, seeks bring in comfort to the passengers and auto driver as well, said Mr K. Srinivasan, Vice-President (Sales & Service), three-wheeler of TVS Motor Company Ltd. To be available both in petrol and LPG driven variants, TVS King is a new brand introduced in this segment. Most auto rickshaws are over 10-15 years old and replacement is due. “We can grab the opportunity here”, Mr Srinivasan told newspersons at the launch event. Welfare schemesReferring to the welfare measures, he said through a tie-up with United India Insurance, National Insurance and New India Assurance, the company is offering a personal accident and healthcare insurance policy to the auto rickshaw drivers. The policy would cover the owner and his family against medical care up to Rs 30,000 per annum. The owner would be additionally covered by a personal accident policy for Rs 1 lakh. TVS Motor will pay the first year premium amount, he announced. Another initiative promised by the company is to train TVS King drivers in safety, preventive maintenance, passenger courtesy and friendliness. This is aimed at improving the self-esteem and image of the driver, Mr Srinivasan said. A workshop was also inaugurated at Kiran TVS, a company dealer. TVS Motor also announced a reward scheme to the children of the auto rickshaw drivers, who are among the top three scorers in the Class 10 and Class 12 in each State.
