Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, May 23 The Kerala Cabinet has approved the Tender submitted by a consortium led by Hyderabad-based Lanco Kondapalli Power Ltd for the development of an international container trans-shipment terminal at Vizhinjam, near here.

The proposal will now be sent to the Centre for security clearance.

The Kerala Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, told newspersons after the Cabinet meeting on Friday that the project, estimated to cost Rs 5,348 crore, would create 5,000 direct and 1.5 lakh indirect employment opportunities. Being developed on a build-operate-transfer basis, the project will be operated by the consortium for 30 years and then handed over to the State Government.

A special purpose vehicle will be floated for the implementation of the project.
