Union Bank adopts 101 villages

Mumbai, May 25

The Union Bank of India has adopted 101 villages across the country under its ‘Union Adarsh Gram’ initiative. The initiative was launched by the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, at the inauguration of the bank’s branch and ATM at Nachundapatti in Pudukottati in Tamil Nadu. Under the scheme, the bank will also participate in various social economic development programmes launched by the Central, State and local self governing bodies, said a press relea se from the bank. Apart from converting the village into a 100 per cent banking habit village, the bank would also ensure that that funds granted to the village development are channelised through the bank. The bank would work jointly with various government departments, local NGOs and other agencies in the areathe release said. —
