New Products & Services Amara Raja unveils ‘maintenance free’ batteries for bikes
Mr Jaydev Galla, Managing Director, Amara Raja Batteries Ltd (extreme right), with Narain Karthikeyan, Armaan Ebrahim and Aditya Patel (from left), professional racers and brand ambassadors for Amaron, at the launch of Amaron Pro Bike Rider two-wheeler batteries, in Chennai. Our Bureau Chennai, May 26 Amara Raja Batteries Ltd on Monday launched batteries for two-wheelers. These are valve-regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries, hence maintenance-free, and are being offered for two-wheelers. The ‘Amaron Pro Bike Rider’ batteries will be available in three variants of 2.5, 5 and 9 ampere hour. With this range, the company will address the entire spectrum of two-wheelers in the country. The prices of the batteries range between Rs 760 and Rs 1,525, which according to Mr Galla, is about the same price as the competitor’s but, being maintenance-free, of premium quality. (In comparison, ‘Tata Green’ batteries cost between Rs 684 and Rs 1,597.) ARBL expects to sell Rs 45-crore worth of two-wheeler batteries this year. At the launch function here on Monday, Mr Jaydev Galla, Managing Director, ARBL, handed over the batteries to the products’ first customers, bike racers Narain Kartikeyan, Armaan Ebrahim and Aditya Patel. Alongside, the company has also launched a Web site, www.amaronprobikerider.com. The site will provide information about new products besides offering tips for better maintenance of batteries. Addressing the press conference, Mr Galla said that Amaron Pro Bike Rider came with a 60-month warranty, while maintaining price on par with other premium batteries. Most Indians do not replace their batteries regularly and hence a maintenance-free, ‘fit and forget’ battery would be a winner in the market, Mr Galla said. Currently, the market demands 18 million units (Rs 500 crore), including 10 million from the replacement market. This will grow to 30 million units in five years. ARBL targets 20 per cent share of the market in five years. More Stories on : New Products & Services | Automobile Components | Two/Three Wheelers
