Airlines States - Andhra Pradesh Air Deccan flight grounded on bird hit Our Bureau Visakhapatnam, May 26 The Kolkata-Vizag-Hyderabad flight of Air Deccan was grounded here on Monday morning, as the airbus of Air Deccan suffered a bird-hit, as it was taking off. There were 90 passengers on board. The pilot reported the bird-hit as the aircraft was speeding on the runway, according to Mr K. Srinivas Reddy, the commercial manager of Air Deccan. Passengers were later sent by another flight. The airport authorities have said that one of the steps taken routinely to prevent bird-hits is to set off automatic blasts with a LPG machine in the vicinity of the runway to scare away the birds. Airport controller Mr C. Pattabhi said that birds foraging for food in the residential areas in the vicinity of the airport are posing a hazard and the local authorities have been requested to take appropriate measures.
