Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh AP looks to develop border districts to attract industries Phalguna Jandhyala Hyderabad, May 27 The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) is developing border districts of the State to seize the opportunities thrown up by the non-availability of land in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. APIIC is looking at developing industrial zones in these areas as it could attract more industries to set up operations, a Government official told Business Line. He added that Andhra Pradesh lost a lot of opportunities in the past to the two neighbours as there was no proper infrastructure developed in these areas. For example, the APIIC is planning to develop Hindupur in Ananthapur district which is close to Bellary in Karnataka. Similarly, it is also looking at developing Satyavedu in Chittoor District and Tada in Nellore District which are close to the Tamil Nadu border. “Despite political reasons, development of industrial estates was far ahead in the neighbouring States and due to this they attracted a lot of industries. The Industries Department authorities also feel that we could not compete with them earlier as we lacked basic and good infrastructure,” he said. The official also said that the top brass of APIIC has already issued orders to the zonal managers to this effect. “For instance in Tamil Nadu, Sriperumbudur and Gummidipundi districts have no land available for potential investors and in the same way in Hosur and Doddaballapur districts of Karnataka land has already been allotted and no further space is available for future allotment. “The industries coming in will also provide employment to the residents of the area which in turn will help in the economic development of those districts,” he said.
