‘Give priority to Nabard, RRBs in loan waiver’

Our Bureau

Kolkata, May 27 The All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association has urged the Government and Nabard that RRBs should be given priority for the ‘loan waiver scheme’ as the client base of regional rural banks is made up of only small and marginal farmers, sharecroppers and landless agricultural labourers.

Altogether 88 RRBs through 14,600 branches in 550 districts have so far submitted their claims for about Rs 13,000 crore to Nabard. The banks usually extend finance to agricultural borrowers out of the refinance taken from Nabard and in some cases, partly from sponsor banks. They have to repay the instalments due to Nabard or sponsor bank in order to get fresh refinance.
