Tamarind prices rise

Our Bureau

Tiruchi, May 28 Poor arrivals of tamarind at the wholesale market in Manapparai this season have resulted in a marginal rise in its prices. The unprecedented rains and floods during March have affected the yield this year, say farmers.

A bag of superior quality tamarind of 60 kg, is being marketed at Rs 700 while the medium variety is being sold at Rs 360. Last year, the respective prices stood at Rs 600 and Rs 250, according to A. K. Rajendran, a whole-time dealer.
