Human Resources IT sector continues to be the top draw among students: Survey
Students perceived IT services and products, nanotechnology, management consultancy, energy, oil and gas and financial sectors as the top five industries of the future. Our Bureau Bangalore, May 28 Information Technology continues to be the most preferred sector for employment at engineering campuses for the Class of 2009. According to an AC Nielsen Campus Track T-schools study, the top three preferred companies in engineering campuses are TCS, Google and Accenture. For students in the non-IT sector, automotive seems to be the most preferred sector. Nielsen Campus Track T-schools 2008 surveyed the attitudes of students towards recruiting companies and the factors used to evaluate prospective employers. The study covered 140 top engineering schools including all the IITs and the NITs for its report. Students perceived IT services and products, nanotechnology, management consultancy, energy, oil and gas and financial sectors as the top five industries of the future. “Though IT continues to be the favourite among engineering students, we can expect to see them face the heat from unexpected quarters in the years ahead through the resurgence of energy, oil and gas, financial services and banking firms, and an upsurge of nanotechnology,” said Ms Vatsala Pant, Associate Director, Client Solutions, The Nielsen Company. The study also suggests that students view salaries as a hygiene factor, that is if the company fails to address this issue then it would have a negative impact on its image. This year, the salaries expected from ‘dream companies’ is likely to be around Rs 11 lakh, an increase of about 20 per cent from last year.
