Steps likely to improve service tax compliance

New Delhi, May 28

The Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, is to inaugurate the two-day all-India annual conference of the Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) here on Thursday.

Besides performance appraisal of the CBEC in key areas such as revenue collection, enforcement, trade facilitation, the conference is also expected to deliberate on the status of automation initiatives in the central excise and customs department.

It will also deliberate upon measures to raise compliance level in service tax as well as issues relating to SEZs.

An official release said that there will also be a session on recent developments in international customs that cast obligations on customs administrations.
