Strategy SOTC focussing on activity-based tourism Shubhra Tandon Mumbai, May 28 SOTC, a leading outbound travel company and part of Kuoni Travel Group India, plans to strengthen its presence in activity-based tourism through acquisition of companies having a stronghold in adventure tourism, sports tourism and other similar activities. Destination specific“There could also be opportunities where, say, a company is a specialist in a particular destination, so they know more about that one destination than is normally known to companies,” Mr Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, India & South Asia, Outbound Division, told Business Line. Refusing to divulge any specific details, Mr Gupta said that it’s a “strategic way to grow and is a big issue for SOTC”. He added that of the 1.5 million Indian travellers who go abroad for holidays, about 15 per cent of them are now wanting to experiment with different cuisines, explore lesser-known places and engage in activities rather than relax at a beach or shop! SOTC is already incorporating river rafting, hot-air ballooning, trekking, etc in the existing holiday packages, he said. SOTC is looking to start its e-commerce venture by launching a travel portal this year. The company is also investing “substantially” in the distribution and marketing of Kuoni Holidays in India.
