IPR Corporate - Courts/Legal Issues Wipro Lighting wins trademark infringement case Our Bureau Bangalore, May 29 Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting has won a trademark infringement case against a Delhi company that had been using its brand name and similar packaging to sell its GLS lamps. The Delhi High Court has recently issued an interim order restraining K.K. Lamps from manufacturing GLS lamps under Safelite or any similar brand name. The Delhi company had been marketing its product under the brand name ‘Safelife’ in an infringement of Wipro’s ‘Safelite’ brand, said Mr Anil Chugh, Senior Vice-President, Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting. Brand imageHe said it caused considerable damage to the company’s brand image, particularly in some of its larger markets such as Andhra Pradesh. Mr Chug said “The said party had not only replicated the colour and design scheme of the Wipro Safelite pack design but had also flagged off our UVS benefit on its pack, which is the main selling proposition of our bulbs.” UVS is a technology developed by Wipro that reduces ultra-violet radiations making light safer for the eyes.
