Aquaculture Karnataka’s 57-day fishing ban from June 15 Our Bureau Mangalore, May 29 The Karnataka Government has imposed fishing ban in three districts of coastal Karnataka during monsoon season. A statement issued by the Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka, here said that a 57-day fishing ban would be effective from June 15 to August 10 (both days inclusive) along the coast of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. For Uttara Kannada district, the fishing ban will be for 47 days — June 15 to July 31. This ban is applicable for fishing activity being taken with the help of mechanised boats, trawlers, and country boats with in-bound or out-bound engines above 10 HP. The statement urged the fishermen to obey the State’s instructions with regard to fishing ban. Legal action will be initiated against those who violate the instructions and venture into sea for fishing during the ban period. Cases of accidents in the sea during the ban period will not be compensated. Those who violate the instructions will not be eligible for subsidised diesel and for concession in central excise duty, it said. More Stories on : Aquaculture | Agricultural Policy
