Dust prices up at Kochi tea auction

Dust tea prices improved at the Kochi Tea auction where bolder CTC varieties continued to witness good demand from inter-State buyers, while domestic players and major blenders lent good support to liquoring teas.

Prices of most leaf tea remained relatively steady.

There was 11,77,000 kg of dust tea on offer where bolder CTC varieties remained firm to dearer by Rs 2-3. Best CTC and other finer grades were steady to sometimes dearer.

Plainer CTC were barely steady. Orthodox highgrown dust also remained steady while medium orthodox moved up by Re 1-Rs 2. Best CTC varieties quoted Rs 60-68, medium CTC was at Rs 53-57 and below medium ranged at Rs 48-52.

High grown BOPD varieties fetched Rs 83-96, medium BOPD was at Rs 51-53 and secondaries quoted Rs 43-48. There was 3,37,000 kg of leaf tea on offer where highgrown orthodox and bolder grades quoted lower. Smaller brokens and fannings were steady. Medium whole leaf orthodox varieties and primaries tended to be lower.

Plainer orthodox and fannings remained steady. Smaller CTC were dearer by Rs 2-3, while other CTC were dearer following quality. Best Nilgiri varieties quoted Rs 72-88, medium orthodox were at Rs 62-82 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 52- 57. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 63-69 and medium CTC was at Rs 55-62.

TOP PRICES

In the dust segment, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 96 followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 87, Parkside BOPD at Rs 83 and Pasuparai FD at Rs 83. Among the leaf varieties, Havukal FOP fetched the top price at Rs 120, followed by Chamran OP at Rs 111, Sutton OP at Rs 110 and Parkside FOP at Rs 110.
