Rationing supplies

The decision of the Indian oil companies to ration supplies to petrol bunks all over the country would only fuel the existing crisis. The decision would make the public panic over the shortage of petroleum products and may lead to serpentine queuesat pumps.

Further, it may aggravate the illegal trade and black marketing. This type of decision of rationing supplies should be effected only in the case of an emergency and not for tiding over temporary crisis.

The government should sit with the oil companies and the Finance and Petroleum Ministries to arrive at a settlement for reasonable hike in rates rather than allowing things to go out of hand and leading to an artificial crisis.
