Airlines Industry & Economy - Petroleum Air India hikes fuel surcharge Our Bureau
New Delhi, May 31 Domestic air travel could become more expensive from June 3 following the decision of oil companies to increase the sale price of aviation turbine fuel. Immediately after oil companies announced an increase of Rs 10.83 a litre of ATF being uplifted in Delhi and Rs 12.37 a litre in Chennai , Air India said it would raise the fuel surcharge by Rs 300 for flights less than 750 km and Rs 550 for longer flights. Passengers will have to pay the higher surcharge from June 3, an airline spokesman said. Last month when ATF prices were hiked by about Rs 5 a litre, most airlines raised the fuel surcharge by Rs 150 for flights of up to 750 km and Rs 350 for longer flights. Air India had, however, not implemented any increase in surcharge at that time.
