Reverse e-auction introduced

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), which owns and runs Vizag steel plant, has introduced reverse e-auction for finalisation of road transport contracts. The arrangement was earlier in force for the dispatch of scrap and now it includes dispatch of finished goods also. Earlier, the auction was conducted once in a year and now it is conducted every two months, to take into account various elements in fluctuating road transportation costs. The bulk of Vizag steel plant’s output of finished steel is transported by road, a part of it directly to consumers and the remaining to various stockyards in different parts of the country. There were occasions in the past when coastal movement of finished products did take place, mostly on an experimental basis. In the absence of non-availability of rakes in sufficient numbers, the coastal option, it is learnt, will be exercised vigorously once the Gangavaram port is commissioned. RINL will be the major user of the port.
