Society & Development States - Karnataka MRPL helps Isckon in mid-day meal scheme The company is planning to extend this facility to another 2,500 children of 10 schools in the second phase. Our Bureau Mangalore, June 1 Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), in association with the Akshaya Patra Foundation of Isckon (International Society for Krishna Consciousness), began a mid-day meal programme for students of Government schools at Katipalla and Cheleiru villages in Mangalore on Saturday. Launching the mid-day meal at Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School at Katipalla, Mr R. Rajamani, Managing Director of MRPL, said that the company under its corporate social responsibility programme Samrakshan will coordinate with Iskon to provide mid-day meal facility to 2,400 students of nine schools, in and around MRPL. The company is planning to extend this facility to another 2,500 children of 10 schools in the second phase, he said. Mid-day meal facility will help reduce the school drop-out rate in rural areas, he said. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chitranga Das of Akshaya Patra Foundation said that nearly 8.5 lakh students get the benefit of Iskon’s mid-day meal programme in six States in the country.
